Leg 6 - Southport, NC to Norfolk, VA

 4/23/24 - 4/26/2024

288 Miles

We continued to find ourselves blessed with amazing weather, but a touch windy. The wind required us to stay on the ICW this entire leg. We made 2 stops from Charleston to Norfolk; one in Southport, North Carolina and one in Coinjock, North Carolina. Two long days, we were running ahead of some weather in an effort to make it to the Chesapeake. Beautiful landscapes along the way, however we did not stop for any leisure sight seeing.

Safe Harbor South Harbor Village, Southport, NC

We highly recommend Safe Harbor South Harbor Village, a great marina with nice amenities and lots of walking close by. The staff is excellent.

Fishing is king in this area

We saw quit a few abandoned vessels

Another abandoned vessel

Lots and lots of shrimp boats

Coming out of the Albemarle Sound, we were running fast. The winds were picking up, we knew from past experience when the kinds blow the sound kicks up and its a mess, bridges close - no one goes anywhere until it settles down. Thankfully we cruised through arriving at Coinjock, North Carolina just in time for dinner.

Coinjock Marina, waiting for our prime rib!

There it is the famed Coinjock Prime Rib with all the fixings. We ate that meal and leftovers for 2 days, its generous and delicious!

On our way to Norfolk

A Lock! We haven't seen one of these for awhile!!!

The closer we got to Norfolk the bigger the boats got! Tug fleet waiting to meet their ships!

Military vessels along the Norfolk shore
