Leg 5 - Emerald Rock, Land and Sea Park Exumas Bahamas

 4/5/24

18 miles

The Land and Sea Park can only be described as a beautifully magical place! Established in the late 1950s, the Land and Sea Park was the first ever land and sea park created and home to one of the largest barrier reefs in the western hemisphere. Covering 176 square miles, only accessible by private boat or charter, the park is a true treasure to visit, enjoy and celebrate their success as a protected marine preserve. Moorings are available through the park service, getting a hold of the park service is a little tricky. Once you get in touch with the park, they will assign you a mooring field, there are many. You can request an area of the park you prefer, but it all comes down to availability. We were very happy to be assigned the Emerald Rock area, just south and a quick dinghy ride to the park visitor center where we learned all about the park. On land we hiked and in the waters we snorkeled. We were happy to see healthy, thriving reefs with vibrant corals and fish!
