Leg 6 - Florida's East Coast

Bahama crossing success! We had a gorgeous passage from Great Harbor Cay in the Berry Islands to Ft. Pierce, Florida. The sun was shining, the seas were calm, we ran at a comfortable 23 mph having us on the water for a little shy of 8 hours. Ft. Pierce welcomed us with a beautiful sunshine!

After a long of travel crossing the gulf yesterday we were happy to have a shorter day today. Now on the ICW it is a slower pace with the increased boat traffic, a big benefit is calm waters with the protection of the waterway. We arrived in Titusville with plenty of time to take a walk around town. Titusville is located on "The Space Coast" a short distance from Cape Canaveral. A small town with lots of pride for their connection to this area's space industry.
The Titusville Municipal Marina is a great stop, the staff are amazing!
Murals throughout town depicting the town's history.
We loved the homemade ice cream at The Mad Utter.
We got to visit with some fellow loopers showing off their flamingo,

4/17/24 - St. Augustine

When we made our loose plan for the Loop there were some absolute stops, St. Augustine was at the top of the list. We have been lucky to visit St. Augustine a few times and we always love it. The municipal marina at the bridge is the perfect location for easy access to all that St. Augustine has to offer. It is a tricky marina to get into with its strong currents, timing and understanding the tides is essential for a no drama docking. We had no problem but there were a few wilds dockings we witnessed later in the day once the wind picked up. Our favorite things to do in St. Augustine are simple, wander through the beautiful side streets of this historic city and eat. There are so many good restaurants its hard to pick one!
Castillo de San Marcos , Spanish for St. Mark's Castle is the oldest masonry fort in the US. Because of its close location to our marina we enjoyed the fort throughout the day and night first by visiting it to learn the history and later to appreciate its beauty as the light changed from day to night.
Originally the Hotel Alcazar, now the Lightner Museum. A wonderful museum to visit.
Its amazing to think about the vision and potential Henry Flagler saw in the late 1800s of the wild untamed land of what we know today as Florida.
